I've generally moved on from this sample, but couldn't find anyone in the community willing to take it on for any future updates.

The beauty is, for this sample, all the source is 100% available and you are free to do with it whatever you'd like. If you want to add in a feature urgently, the best person to do it will be you. If you want to contribute back to the sample, let me know and I'll add you to codeplex here.

Is there any event handler for report header like BeginBuildReportHeader.
It is very much required.
In my report in header i want to print report period and report for Department like...
Summary report for : Accounts
Summary Report From : 1/April/2013 To : 4/April/2013
etc.
Its very urgent.

The WPF printing model is quite different, so I didn't even attempt to do that. Plus, there are lots of report writing solutions for the desktop.

Hi,

I'm using this and it works for me. One question, is it possible to add more binded data to PageHeader? I see you have an eventhandler for Footer.

Report.BeginBuildReportFooter += (s, e) =>

Brought to my attention by @serbrech

If the Source of an Image is null, the page that contains the image will not be printed (fails silently).
This happens when the runtime is Silverlight 5 (Vector printing). When the runtime is Silverlight 4, the page are rasterized as bitmap and all is fine.
Compiling with SL4 or SL5 RC tools produce the same behaviour.

A possible workaround is to wrap the Image control into another control that will swap a null Image source with a blank image.

Datagrid was easy because it was bound. This construct created the columns (up to 8) and rows (up to 30) .. so it really doesn't get that big.

Anyway, I modified the approach by creating an interface for the datacontext called "Clues", and put SuggestedHeight on the context if I feel it can't figure it out.

Also -- would be useful to do a scale transform if a single object could not fit.

I like your basic approach !

Is there a specific reason you're using a DataGrid for this? The DataGrid is a pretty heavy control meant for interactivity.

I haven't tested the report with datagrids. Although there has been a request to be able to build a report based on one, using the grid itself for report display is not on my list.

Also, it looks like you're creating a separate datagrid for each row in the report. I'm not sure how big the report will be, but that could be a LOT of datagrids. Memory for the app would likely go a bit nuts.

I am building a fairly sophisticated (but not wildly so) report that has a variable number of rows and columns.

Unfortunately, as I walk through the "BuildReport" method, the DesiredSize of each row of information (which is bound to a datagrid) comes out at a measly 64 pixels (vs the 28 or so lines of data I have bound to it.

Is there a way to get the actual size sooner, so that the size is properly estimated and we trip teh "next page" concerpt.

Is this implementation such that any "unknown" binding size will not work ?

If you want to load an image *into* the report, the image Loaded event isn't the right place. I'd recommend doing it in a general data-loading method before you print.

Ahh, I think I realize what you were looking at. There is no on-screen representation of the report. It just prints.

I'll look into this, but as a simple reporting example, I really didn't expect people to put ListBox elements in the printed report.

Can you tell me more about what you're looking to accomplish?

Playing with this example, i have found, that more complex templates works not correctly:

I have add a ChildNames property to EmployeeReviewReportItem:

public string[] ChildNames { set; get; }

in ReportData.cs set value for this property:

ChildNames = new string[] { firstNames.Random(), firstNames.Random(), firstNames.Random() }

in MainPage.xaml a new ListBox to show this prperty:

...
   <TextBlock Grid.Row="2"
                                   Grid.ColumnSpan="4"
                                   TextWrapping="Wrap"
                                   Text="{Binding ReviewComments}" />

ListBox will be rendered without content.
How i can get Child names printed?

i want print an image of a report

i set source of the image via this:

private void rpt_img_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)

img.Source = _bitmapImg;

}

but this event does not fire ,

is my solution correct? what about another solution ?

Strange. Are you using the same database? Are the bindings correct in the template?

when i am running it, it is not showing data in report control.
I debugged it also data is coming in completed event but not showing in reportcontrol

please help what is wrong with it

is there any insatallation required for this
